Indianapolis has a rich history, vibrant arts scenes and no shortage of character. This eight-mile urban bike and pedestrian path offers a fun and scenic way to experience the diverse neighborhoods, buildings, public art and entertainment destinations throughout the downtown area.
The Indianapolis Cultural Trail is the downtown hub for central Indiana’s vast greenway system (connecting 40 miles of trails in total), and traverses six cultural districts. The best part is that you get to choose your adventure. Walk as long or as little as you please. There’s no wrong way to enjoy the trail, and there are eight suggested routes on the official Indy Trail website to help you determine where to go first. During your journey, you can check out local highlights like Fountain Square, Mass Ave, and the Wholesale District. You can also connect your walk to the Monon Trail, which will take you to popular shopping destinations like Broad Ripple Village and Carmel.
Experience a larger portion of the Cultural Trail with the Pacers Bike Share. This public transportation system will allow you to mix exercise & shopping while covering more of what the trail has to offer. You’ll find stations conveniently placed all along the trail to ensure pick-up & drop-off locations anywhere you’d like to begin or end your journey.
While it’s easy to enjoy the trail on your own, there are also guided bike tours you can enjoy with a local expert. Indy Cultural Trail biking tours are available every Saturday from April through October at 10am, and start at the Indianapolis Cultural Trail Office – 132 W. Walnut Street. The cost is $35 per person (bike and helmet included), and private tours can also be arranged.
