Marriott's Spirit to Conserve and Preserve

The new and improved green Marriott experience is taking shape at Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. We have put into place a series of sustainable hotel practices to position our property as one of the leading eco-friendly businesses in the area.

As a result of our eco-friendly efforts, Indianapolis Marriott Downtown was officially named a Certified Green Hotel by environmental non-profit Green Seal. The organization’s Green Seal Standard for Hotels and Lodging Properties is one of the most rigorous in the hospitality industry, requiring compliance with waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation, wastewater management and green procurement standards. Our hotel is the first property in Indy and one of just three Marriott hotels to earn certification from Green Seal.

Long-term goals of our green Indianapolis hotel and the Marriott brand include further reducing energy and water consumption by 25 percent per available room by 2017, creating green construction standards for hotel developers, educating associates and guests to support the environment, and investing in innovative conservation initiatives. Some of the green Indianapolis hotel practices we have implemented include:

• Amenity reuse program
• Water saving shower heads in all guest rooms
• Water conserving toilets in all guest rooms
• Motion sensor and timed light switches in service landings and storage rooms
• Sensors and water conserving faucets in all public guestrooms
• Optional linen reuse program for multiple night guests
• Single stream recycling program for paper, cardboard, newspapers, bottles, cans and ink cartridges
• Florescent lighting throughout meeting areas
• HVAC system is scheduled to turn on and off in meeting rooms based on event agendas
• Tissue and toilet paper made from 20-30% recycled fiber
• Laundry bags made from recycled biodegradable plastic
• Guestroom keys made from recycled materials
• Testing bulk soap dispensers in guest rooms. Current bottles made from recycled plastic
• All forms of stationery are at 30% PCW
• Starbucks uses recyclable cups from post consumer paper Indy Marriott is also known for green meeting practices
